"And besides, there's so much beauty in a storm..."

Living in Texas for a lot of my childhood, I was used to the word "storm" meaning a certain something, and I was very disappointed, when I moved up north, during my teen years, to experience what storms meant up there. Because it was nothing like a Texas storm. My house never shook. I never saw trampolines roll down the street like a giant wheel. I never looked out the window to see the rain "falling" completely sideways and the trees bent in half, blowing in the wind. And my life never flashed before me.

So, one of the things I've loved (and, on occasion, hated) the most is moving back and experiencing the power of the storms here again. While I hate driving in the worst of them, because it can sometimes be more like having a large waterfall pouring on your windshield--where your wipers, at full speed, don't even seem to be on because the rain is so heavy--I do love running outside and watching them float in. Sometimes it's already a cloudy day, and the clouds just seem to get darker. But sometimes half the sky is blue and sunny, while the other half of the sky is dark, ominous, almost black, as it slowly creeps its way in. This storm was extra interesting. It's hard to capture what it really felt/looked like. But this is another angle of the photo above (I stepped out and turned left). The houses facing the blue skies were bright & sunny looking, while the other houses were in shadow. It was a very interesting combination of everything. Very soon after this, the darkness covered the full sky, and it looked to be closer to nighttime than it did to daytime. And while it had already started raining on and on, a severe storm began.
