I keep trying to write an update about the cage fight and realized I haven't managed to send a simple update to say that we're home. So, we're home now!

We met with the PCP today for a post-hospital appointment. He worked for the hospital system we want to switch Emma over to. We had a quick chat about how it went when she was admitted and then told him that we'd really like to go ahead and completely transfer care over to their hospital now that she's an adult.
So, he asked me what specialists we need, and he got on the computer and sent referrals one-by-one. A lot of them are his personal friends. For the hem/onc, he pulled out his phone and texted him, seeing if he felt comfortable taking on Emma as a patient, since she's a pretty complex patient and needs the right doctor. (We definitely want a doctor that *willingly* takes her on because we feel like she'll get much better care.) He also sent a note to their palliative care to get that going. Soooo, assuming I remembered all the specialists, and assuming they're all on board, we should be getting all of her care set up soon.
In the meantime, he said if she needs to be readmitted, we can do that there, too. So, it's a pretty big relief to feel like we won't have to go back to the other hospital where those awful GI doctors are. As I'm writing this, I realize I need to check that the plan we were sent home with, from the hospitalists at the children's hospital, will work with them, too, or how that'll work exactly. Because that plan told us at what point to go back to the hospital. And I really don't want to start this thing over again, where she doesn't get the care she needs when she needs it.
It gives a huge feeling of freedom from going back to a place that turned into poison. It's unfortunate that two men were able to do that because that hospital is amazing, otherwise. All the other employees are fantastic. If she hadn't had gut issues, we never would have had to leave. :(
But we're hoping this is a move onward and upward. Granted, humans will be involved, and they tend to do humans things, so I guess we'll see! ;)
(I'm still going to share the cage fight story. I've just had to rewrite it a few times because it was way too long!!)
Wow. Thanks for the update. Welcome home!! So glad you had such a warm handoff by the PCP. And also, I love that photo! :-D love,Rachel
